IMS accreditation is the recognised standard for medical science practices and laboratories across Australia. It demonstrates your commitment to quality, safety, and professional excellence.
Show that your organisation operates with consistency, professionalism, and accountability. Gain recognition that inspires confidence among stakeholders and healthcare partners.
IMS accreditation provides independent verification that a medical science practice or laboratory meets the professional standards set by Australia's peak body for the sector.
Accreditation is relevant to private and public laboratories, hospital-based pathology services, point-of-care testing facilities, and research settings.
Accredited organisations demonstrate to funders, regulators, patients, and referrers that their processes, personnel, and quality management systems meet a recognised national benchmark.
For staff, working in an accredited facility is a mark of professional pride — and for employers, it supports compliance with health department expectations and funding requirements.
Submit your application to begin the process of formal recognition for your organisation. This is your first step toward demonstrating strong professional practice and operational excellence.
Accreditation is available to laboratories and medical science practices operating within Australia. Review the eligibility criteria on our accreditation standards page before applying.
Complete the IMS accreditation application online. You will need to provide information about your facility, staffing, quality management systems, and current practices.
An IMS assessor will review your application and conduct an on-site or remote assessment. You will receive a detailed assessment report with any areas requiring attention before accreditation is confirmed.
Once assessment requirements are met, your organisation will be listed in the IMS Accredited Organisations Directory and issued with an accreditation certificate valid for three years.
Renewal applications should be submitted at least three months before your accreditation expiry date. Members can manage their renewal through the member portal.
